You could use an event collection or performance collection rule to gather data without alerting. As for monitors, you can override the GenerateAlert property = false.

Where I wound up with this was using AD sites for dynamic groups and a single monitor with recovies on both error and healthy state to take servers in and out of maintenance mode. Seems there are a quite a few options given enough time, I just can't see

I definitely like option 1 as the easiest way to achieve this in a dynamic fashion, with 3 as the likely way one could fill the gaps. Still trying to envision how Raphael's forecast could be avoided...lots of PowerShell and months of work
