Gurus, I have read the SNMP series for OpsMgr 2007 here on the site and seen some of the sample SNMP packs on MP catalog, but it all seems somewhat painful to me. Is there a way to monitor a network device without spending money on third party add ins AND without getting into the depths of XML?

David, thanks for the quick response. I had actually found a link to your SNMP Probe-based Monitors article here on the site but on another thread. Not the magic bullet I hoped for, but confirms what I feared. I have some work ahead of me creating a bunch of unit monitors. Thanks again.
