NetApp Management pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2.

Designed by Oskar Landman.

The management pack contains the discovery of NetApp components as well as some availability and disk space monitoring all being done by the use of SNMP.

For detailed information on the Management Pack see the series:

SNMP Management Pack example: NetApp Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 – Part 1

SNMP Management Pack Example: NetApp Management Pack for SCOM 2007 R2 part 2

SNMP Management Pack Example: NetApp Management Pack for SCOM 2007 R2 part 3

SNMP Management Pack Example: NetApp Management Pack for SCOM 2007 R2 part 4

I have tested the MP in different areas and as soon as the filers are getting bigger the more probes are being send and the heavier the workload is going to be on both sides! Although the MP is more tuned then described in this series always be careful when importing management packs in you environments especially when it is production. If available always use a test environment to be sure you understand the management pack and it’s impact! Closely monitor your environment before, during and after to be sure no problems arise.

Oskar Landman

Hi Oskar, i've just checked SCOM 2007 R2, but i still don't see any volume's and lun's. I do see some error reports in the evenlog about the DiscoverVolume.vbs, " Variable is undefined: 'Agregates'. So when editting the Datasource with de correct value 'ManagedEntityID' still no volumes.

I will look further in to the details.

Regards, Kees

Hi Oskar, I'm also having the same errors occur in SCOM 2007 R2 pertaining to Variable is undefined: 'Aggregates'.

BTW..... thank you for doing this. Your guide to actually creating this MP was great!

Hi Oskar

We are in the process of setting up a SCOM Monitoring environment and would like to monitor our SAN which is a branded NetApp SAN from IBM named nSeries.

Do you know if the standard management pack from NetApp supports branded NetApp SANs?

The other question is that if the management pack you made support branded NetApp SANs?

Best regards

Hi Hans,

to be honest I can't tell for both but, the management pack I designed uses SNMP so it can be....

It really depends on the device if it can be defined by the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.789 it will probably work. But if it uses an IBM OID it will not be discovered so no harm done....you can test if it works or not.

Otherwise you will need the MIB file for your device and change the MP...

Maybe NetApp's MP works for you but can't be sure it depends on the software running on your SAN.

Unfortunately I can't give you a clear awnser, you need to ask NetApp if they support your device.......

regards,

Oskar

Hi.

Is it possible to re-write this MP for SCOM 2007 SP1?
Oskar Landman wrote: on Aug 30, 2010 04:00 AM
Casper,

re-writing the MP for SP1 is not really an option since the procedures used are specific for R2 like multiple SNMP get retrieval. (as I remember correctly).

You might be able to get something similar but this would require using WMI and SNMP. Which is a total different approach.

Based on this I have no intention to release or re-write a free SP1 version... Sorry.

If you want the functionality of this free mp you need R2.

If you are intrested in a commercial one I am able to give you the information for a NetApp Management Pack for SP1 but this version is not free for usage. If you are intrested please send me a PM.

regards,

Oskar Landman
