For the System Center Management Pack Extensions Contest I wanted to put together a sample MP with a linked report all in the authoring console to provide a simple example for IT Pros. So I took a cool script and turned it into a simple management pack. I started with the ‘SQL Last Backup Script’ made famous by Stefan Stranger and Bob Messer (Read more at Stefan’s blog and HERE on SCC). I did clean up the English in one spot and dressed up the alert description when I created the monitor in the Authoring console, but Stefan and Bob deserve all of the credit and a huge vote of thanks for the great script.
The MP contains a script-based monitor, two views and a linked alert report that incorporates the class filter for the object picker. This last bit was a new addition in OpsMgr 2007 R2. MVP Pete Zerger came to my aid here as you’ll see in a moment.
I may build some more into this pack and increase it’s complexity when I finish with my other MP authoring project I am racing to finish by MMS 2010.
The views are pretty simple
Linked Alert Report
I added a linked Report with Class Filter for Microsoft.SQL.Database. I couldn’t have done this on my own either. Thanks to MVP Pete Zerger for taking time to provide me with 100% the xml for the linked report parameterblock).
You can download a copy of the sample management pack from the System Center Central website at the link below. You do need to register and login to download, which is easy and free.
I am currently working on an Windows 2008 Active Directory Audit MP for System Center Essentials 2010.
