ReSearch This KB – VGS not Installed

Alert: VGS not Installed

Management Pack Name: System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Monitoring

Management Pack Version: 3.1.6011.0

Rule or Monitor: Monitor

Rule or Monitor Name: System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager VM VGS Installed

Rule or Monitor Notes: None

Issue: Windows Server 2012 is installed on this virtual machine so Integration Services (also known as Guest Services) is a part of the operating system so the ‘VGS not Installed’ looks like the false positive.

The VM has ‘VM Additions’ (another one name for Integration Services) equal to ‘Not Detected’.

Open Virtual Machine Manager console.

Open a virtual machine properties. Hardware Configuration tab \ Advanced \ Integration Services and select at least ‘Data Exchange’ and ‘Heartbeat’ here.

Click ‘OK’ and select the Refresh option from the virtual machine context menu. Wait for the job to complete and ensure you can see a version in the ‘VM Additions’ column.

Now you need to wait up to 7200 seconds for this monitor’s state change.

Another one reason for this alert is a stopped\corrupted VMvare tools (for a VMware VMs managed by VMM). You need to fix (sometimes – reinstall) VMware tools then refresh the VM in VMM.
