Hi,
Anyone on here have any experience of monitoring Linux servers with SCOM 2007 R2 CU5?
I have imported the appropriate MP’s and created the necessary accounts and profiles. The problem I am having is that the initial discovery is taking forever approx 45 mins for a single server! Is this normal behaviour??
March 8, 2013 at 10:23 am #111382Hi,
I wouldn’t say that is normal behaviour, however what do you mean by initial discovery? After you discover the Linux server, does it appear under UNIX/Linux Computer is the Administration pane straight away, or is it this that’s taking 45 minutes?

March 8, 2013 at 11:02 am #111383The discovery wizard takes ages then eventually finds the linux server but when I try and deploy the agent I get certificate is invalid error, saying it has been signed by an unknown authority. Also tried installing the agent manually, but now tearing my hair out with this. We have a brand new SCOM 2012 implementation happening next month so I am hoping that this will address any issues we have with monitoring Linux servers.

March 8, 2013 at 11:47 am #111385Certificate problems are usually the biggest agent deployment issues. Have you seen this TechNet article on manually signing the certificate? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd788989.aspx
Also, you can enable OpsMgrModuleLogging to get more verbose logging on the agent deployment which should help narrow down why the discovery is taking so long and the reasons for the failure. http://wmug.co.uk/wmug/b/aquilaweb/archive/2009/07/22/enable-opsmgr-module-logging.aspx
March 8, 2013 at 12:24 pm #111386Thanks David, i have tried the manual signing already but i’ll certainly try OpsMgeModuleLogging to try and determine the root cause of the issue.
March 8, 2013 at 4:16 pm #111411I found an article which describes a problem with a Windows patch KB2585542.This is the article here http://operatingquadrant.com/2012/01/12/opsmgr-unixlinux-heartbeat-failures-after-applying-kb2585542/
I have this patch installed on my Management server and the symptoms accurately describe the issues I am experiencing.
Unfortunately not allowed to uninstall the Secuirty Patch so just have to hope that the issue does not exist in SCOM 2012.
