I have a client with several home grown apps that use standard middleware, web platforms and database platforms. Up until MS bought BlueStripe I would have recommended that they make the purchase and let FactFinder map out their applications.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a SCOM integrated product that can map out application dependencies and make it all pretty in SCOM. I really don’t want to scratch build a bunch of Distributed Apps as I am sure that the application owners don’t fully understand all of the necessary touch points and dependencies.

Bluestripe Factfinder is in the process of being integrated into OMS as an OMS solution.  It is now called “Application Dependency Monitor” or simply “ADM”.

The feature is still in private preview but they will be releasing it soon…..my guess is around the Ignite conference timeframe in September.

    Wilson,

Thanks for the info. Yes. I have seen ADM in OMS and the status is “coming” so it doesn’t help me now for production environments. Unfortunately my client is under an internal time constraint to get something in place soon.

Bluestripe FactFinder technically still exists as a standalone product.   Microsoft simply isn’t making it available.   I would recommend you speak with your Microsoft TAM and explain to him your situation.  If your client is willing to commit to OMS then they may let you use the standalone product for the next month or 2 until the OMS ADM solution comes out.

SquaredUp just released ver3.0 of their product and it now has something called “Visual Application Discovery”.  This allows you to map out your application topology as well.  It looks pretty slick but it requires that you purchase their 50-user license package which costs 15k.

Just as an FYI, the ADM feature of OMS will also include a separate pricing tier on top of what you are already paying for OMS data ingestion.   They will be releasing pricing info on that during the Microsoft Ignite conference next week.
