]]> <![CDATA[Appian is a BPM specialist vendor]]> Tue, 10 Oct 2017 12:17:47 +0000 Soujanya Naganuri Appian focuses its efforts across government and commercial industry sectors, including retail, manufacturing, financial services, service providers, healthcare, and energy.

Appian’s BPM technology offering comprises two core products – Appian Training and Appian Anywhere (which is a hosted, but feature-equivalent, version of Appian 6, launched in 2007).

The technology products are unusual in the broad range of capabilities that they pull together and integrate strongly – combining process management, portal, real-time analytics, content management, document management, and collaboration facilities – on one common platform, with a consistent set of completely web-based design, development and administration tools.

It has found a way to expose a great many of the technical capabilities implemented in the platform (including in its content management, document management, collaboration tools and so on) directly to process designers, making it possible for non-specialists to quickly define and deploy process applications that exhibit very sophisticated and dynamic behaviour. The result of all this innovation is an offering that provides strong or very strong support across all of our six process scenarios.

Simulation is the one area where Appian?s offerings do deliver less than the technologies of its closest competitors (support for discovery and analysis isn?t particularly strong, but that?s not uncommon in today?s vendor offerings as this is a relatively new area of exploration and exploitation). In v6.0.2 Appian also significantly improves its ability in the process discovery and requirements area, too – as well as weaving social team-working capabilities into the design environment to help teams further speed development and strengthen change management.

]]> <![CDATA[RSA seeks to close the "gap of inconvenience" with new Business-Driven Security]]> Mon, 09 Oct 2017 07:16:19 +0000 Soujanya Naganuri This architecture, along with several solution offerings, enables customers of all sizes to take control of their position with respect to risk more quickly and effectively. RSA Business-Driven Security solutions, also announced February 15, are designed for what the company describes as a proactive approach to security, with the incorporation of new capabilities in rapid response and threat detection, access security and identity, customer protection against fraud and enterprise risk management.

Despite spending $ 75 billion in cyber security in 2016, organizations still find it difficult to link the business context with security details with the speed needed to make critical decisions. Leaders in security and business are going through a “gaps in inconvenience,” the inability to fully understand the extent to which security incidents translate into quantifiable business risk.

“Despite striving to the fullest, today’s security approaches desperately need a transformation, because they are not enough when put into action. This leads organizations to a downward cycle of investment and reinvestment, “said Rohit Ghai, President, RSA. “RSA is proud to provide a new architecture and array of Business-Driven Security solutions that are designed to be able to use the most fundamental elements of a sensible security strategy: connecting business context with security incidents to manage and troubleshoot most strategic way business risk to protect the most important. ”

The Business-Driven Security architecture and announcements of RSA Training Online solutions help bridge the gap of inconvenience and deliver significant benefits, including dramatically improving the impact of security equipment; the redesign of identity strategies to accelerate business in a borderless world and the provision of web and mobile protection for consumers at the speed of fraud with an ability to know faster which are the most important risks.

RSA NetWitness®

The new capabilities of the RSA NetWitness® suite of applications are designed to provide essential visibility and information about which you can act to detect advanced threats faster, connect points between the network, endpoint and logged data and fully understand the scope of the incident. New capabilities include data collection from the public cloud (Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure® public cloud computing platform) and virtual environments (VMWare® virtual solutions and Gigamon® platform) along with all physical infrastructure. The suite of applications is designed to enable organizations to monitor modern infrastructure with flexibility and ease of implementation.

As an illustration of RSA’s NetWitness capabilities, the suite of applications was used to identify malware that was used in a couple of new attacks – Kingslayer and Schoolbell – and provided ready-to-use content to detect behaviors associated with groups that experts suspect were behind the attacks. RSA Research recently published the findings of Kingslayer and Schoolbell.

]]> <![CDATA[Migrating SCCM 2007 Secondary Sites to SCCM 2012 Distribution Points]]> Thu, 05 Oct 2017 05:32:29 +0000 Soujanya Naganuri In SCCM 2007, administrators use secondary sites in a few scenarios. One of the most common uses is to control the flow of data across slow or unreliable WAN links. With SCCM 2012’s new throttling and scheduling capabilities, content control can be accomplished with distribution points alone. During your migration, sharing a secondary site distribution point is done just as you would share any other distribution point, but upgrading is a little different. When you upgrade an SCCM 2007 secondary site to an SCCM 2012 distribution point, SCCM first uninstalls the secondary site. Then, at the next data-gathering interval (the default interval is four hours), it upgrades the distribution point to an SCCM 2012 standard distribution point.

There were some problems in the early days of migration. When upgrading an SCCM 2007 secondary site to an SCCM Training 2012 (no service pack) distribution point, the presence of the PXE Service Role could prevent the upgrade. This problem was resolved in SCCM 2012 SP1 and should no longer be an issue. If you haven’t installed SP1 and you encounter this scenario, you need to remove the PXE Service Role prior to upgrading the distribution point.
