Enabling Lync 2013 Watcher Nodes for Operations Manager 2012

After having worked for multiple days getting this to work. I wanted to get a fast publish doc out there before I forget all the steps required to enable Lync 2013 Synthetic Transactions as part of the SCOM Lync 2013 Management Pack.

There are 2 Lync 2013 management packs delivered for Operations Manager 2012. There is a primary management pack that monitors the Lync 2013 environment, and a second management pack “Remote Watcher” that works in conjunction with Lync “Watcher Nodes” that enables the synthetic transactions.

One Lync Watcher Node per site. Three Lync test accounts per site

Instructions for an Internal Lync site

• Must have SCOM Agent installed. This is done via discovery in the SCOM Console. Agent proxy should be enabled.

• Add the watcher node computer account to RTCUniversalReadOnlyAdmins group

• Install Lync Core Files on WatcherNode (Lync team)

D:\Setup.exe /BootstrapLocalMgmt

• Install Local Configuration Store on WatcherNode via Lync Server Deployment Wizard (Lync team)

• Request certificates (Lync team)

• Assign Certificate on WatcherNode via Lync Server Deployment Wizard (Lync team)

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2013, and then click Lync Server Deployment Wizard.

2. In the Lync Server Deployment Wizard, click Install or Update Lync Server System, and then click Run under the heading Request, Install, or Assign Certificate.

• Create Trusted Server Application Pool for each Watcher Node (Lync team)

New-CsTrustedApplicationPool –Identity LYNCWATCHERNODE.corp.com –Registrar LYNCSITEPOOL.CORP.COM –ThrottleAsServer $True –TreatAsAuthenticated $True –OutboundOnly $False –RequiresReplication $True –ComputerFqdn LYNCWATCHERNODE.corp.com –Site LyncSite

• Create Trusted Application (Lync team)

New-CsTrustedApplication –ApplicationId STWatcherNode –TrustedApplicationPoolFqdn LYNCWATCHERNODE.corp.com –Port 5061

Enable-CsTopology

Restart Watcher Node

• Run SCOM Lync Watcher component installer on Watcher Node(SCOM team)

D:\WatcherNode.msi Authentication=TrustedServer (parameters are case sensitive)

• Configure Lync Watcher Nodes (Lync team) Must be performed ON (Log on Locally) the Watcher Node from Lync Command Shell.

New-CsWatcherNodeConfiguration –TargetFqdn “LYNCSITEPOOL.CORP.COM” –PortNumber 5061 –TestUsers @{Add= “sip:LyncSitewatcher1@mycorp.com”,”sip:LyncSitewatcher2@mycorp.com”, “sip:LyncSitewatcher3@mycorp.com”}

• grant the correct Lync voice policy, voice dial-plan and conferencing policy to the service accounts being used to perform the transactions.

Add the watcher node computer account to RTCUniversalReadOnlyAdmins group – Which team should do this step SCOM team or Lync Team (This is a domain group, so someone with permissions to update membership of an AD domain security group)

Run SCOM Lync Watcher component installer on Watcher Node(SCOM team) -am from SCOM team but am not sure where should i get this component. (The watchernode.msi is downloaded along with the Lync 2013 MP from Microsoft…
