Dell MP Deep Dive: Part 2 – More Undocumented Discovery Logging

Dell_Logo In part 1 (Deep Dive into the Dell Server Management Pack Suite: Part 1 – Discovery Logging) , we looked at the logging available in the root discovery of the Dell Server 4.0 MP (the one that discovers the Dell Server class) . This is actually only the first layer of what can be potentially useful logging. The second layer of in depth discovery, which targets the Dell Server class instantiated as a result of the root discovery, identifies OpenManage services and server hardware components for Dell monolithic and modular servers. As it turns out, each of these second tier discoveries have custom text logs of their own.

Both of these discoveries targeting the Dell Windows Server class contain the same overridable LogLevel parameter we saw in the root discovery, which can be set to any nonzero value to trigger discovery logging.

Discovery Logging  Detail

Here are the details of the additional discovery logs for these object discoveries. If no error occurs in the discovery script, in each case the script logs a single line to the respective log basically indicating the date and time it ran. Unfortunately, I don’t have any failure conditions to show you for these…
