I didn't any definitive guidance, but I did find in a FAQ where MS said the Powershell cmdlets for DPM 2010 were extended from the DPM 2007 scripts so as to not break the DPM 2007 scripts.

Pete is correct, your DPM 2007 scripts should work on DPM 2010. I run a number of scripts and they have all worked perfectly after upgrading to DPM 2010.

It goes without saying though to test each your scripts rather than just assume that they'll work, as Pete suggests.

Hi,

When protecting a non domain server or a server in a non-trusted domain, you do need to install the agent manually and then attach it to the DPM server that is to provide protection. When you install the agent manually, you need to perform an extra step to configure the agent as a non-domain server.

The high level steps to follow are:

1. Install the DPM agent.

2. Run "SetDpmServer.exe -dpmServerName <ServerName> -isNonDomainServer -userName <UserName>". Obviously replace <ServerName> with your DPM server name and replace <UserName> with any username of your choice for the DPM agent to communicate to teh DPM server.

3. Attach the agent to your DPM server.

For a more detailed, check out my article on it here. http://www.scdpmonline.org/111protecting-a-workgroup-computer-with-dpm-2010-easy-.aspx

Hope that helps.

So, what's the trick to cross-domain replication with DPM 2010 ? I have my DPM server in the COMPANY domain, and a server that needs protection in a trusted domain called OUTSIDER. Could not use the Wizard in DPM2010 to install the agent so had to resort to a manual install, but when I try to Attach agents under the Management tab it stil fails. Tried to run the script to attach and that fails too. Where do I start to find a reason ?

We are trying to implement DPM 2010 on a firewalled Management Network that all are servers are on; to reduce the amount traffic across our routed network. At first, I struggled getting the agents to installed because it queried AD and DNS so it was getting the IP addresses of Production Network not the management network. I got around that through manually updating the host file on the DPM server with the Sever name and the IP address in the Management Network. I also had to manually install the DPM on these servers and discover them.

At first it seems to work but later the Protection groups go into inconsistent states and never get out even after forcing it to do a check.

I looked on Technet and forums nothing was found about this scenario.

Thanks

I started out this DP 2010 deployment using 2 pilot servers and the internal SCSI disk of only 500GB. I had only intended to use this internal disk until the new SAN arrived. Once the SAN arrived, I configured DPM to use it for storage, but it appears it has kept putting protected data sources on the internal disk - Disk1

I found the MigrateDatasourceDataFromDPM script and plan to use it to move everything from Disk1 to Disk2, but the big question now is, will this overwrite what is already on Disk2 or leave that intact ? Can't loose what is already on Disk2.

Hah, that didn't work :(

After I installed DPM 2010 on the second server (DPM02), I want to configure it to protect the first DPM-server (DPM01, which is still DPM2007 SP1+) so I have to install an agent onto it, which fails immediately with this error:

Install protection agent on DPM01 failed:

Error 33120: Unable to configure security settings for DpmDRTrustedMachines group on the computer DPM01 for DPM02.

Recommended action:

1) Make sure that the user name and password you have provided has administrator privileges on the target computer or

2) DpmDRTrustedMachines group is present on DPM01 or

3) Verify that you have the same major version of DPM on DPM01 and DPM02

After I manually created the group DpmDRTrustedMachines on DPM01, the Install Agent-wizard succeeds, but the Agent Status is in error:

Error:	Data Protection Manager Error ID: 307

The protection agent operation failed because DPM detected an unknown DPM protection agent on DPM01.

Recommended action:	Use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall the protection agent from DPM01, then reinstall the protection agent and perform the operation again.

But as this is a DPM-server, there is no DPM Agent in the "Add/Remove Software"-list.
