Forums: OSD - storflt.sys error - Windows 7

http://www.systemcentercentral.com/tabid/177/IndexId/79835/Default.aspx

I am attempting to deploy Windows 7 x64 Enterprise to a Hyper-V virtual machine using OSD/PXE. The deploy task sequence completes successfully, but when the deployed VM reboots, I get the following error:

File: \WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\storflt.sys

Status: 0xc0000359

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have tried deploying the VM with both a OSD capture image and the install image. Both images generate this error. I have tried restarting the deployed VM in safe mode and still get this error.

I know from research that storflt.sys is a virtual storage filter driver for Windows Server 2008 used by Hyper-V guests. However, when I check the reference Windows 7 VM for the captured image, that driver is not present in C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS.

I am running ConfigMgr 2007 R2 on W2K8 R2. Hyper-V is fully patched RTM version.

Anybody have any ideas on this error?

Thanks.

http://www.systemcentercentral.com/tabid/177/IndexId/78911/Default.aspx

Hi all,

I need to move SCCM from an existing server to a new server which has a new name. Unfortunately it is not an option to keep the same server name and I fully am well aware that is not supported to backup the sccm server and import it into a new server with a new name.

So here is my thought.....

What if I stood up SCCM up on the new server with a new site name and site code. Imported any custom collections from the original server, created my packages as on the old server, then run the AD discovery to import the computers.

Once the computers were in the new site, point them to the new site code. Once all are working on the new site code, decomission the old sccm server.

Thoughts? Does anyone disagree or have you run into this before and have a better solution?

Whats involved, or maybe I should ask, is it possible to, rename the windows host name the SCCM Primary Site server is sitting on?

ie SCCMSRV01 to be renamed to CCS-AUSCCM without killing SCCM.

Company wants to standardise the host naming convention and our SCCM Primary server is the last to be done. All secondary servers have been built new.

Can this be done?

We are not the domain adminstrator's at our site, but we have an OU for our division.
The domain administrator wants to put the System Management container under our OU and not at the root.

We've researched it and we can see "How", but we can't figure out the "Why" it needs to have full rights and why it needs to be at the root.

Does anyone know if it will work at a sub-container or if it will only work at the root and the purpose of it?

His plan is to give each OU administrator, their own Systems Mgmt container within their OU. Will it work that way?

The only things that needs write access to the system management container are your site servers. They create (and update) objects there all the time. This needs to be in a well-known, constant location so that clients and certain other specific site roles can look up information using these objects; e.g., site boundaries. It makes sense in AD to delegate and separate things out, but that doesn't make sense in this case because the objects created in AD for ConfigMgr aren't about security or authentication, they are about service and information lookup.
