That's funny, I thought that it would let you patch them from the console once they are set to remotely manageable. Did you try to restart an agent for testing if it re-evaluates the patch status?

Makes me wonder if your install was really successful. Did you follow Kevin's steps, launching from command line as Administrator? Check your .dlls, etc. on OpsMgr servers to make sure they were updated>

I'm pretty sure the CU5 update took properly. I didn't check the DLL's but I did check the files in the agent folder and they are at the proper version.
So are you guys saying that I shouldn't need to do anything? ....that the agents should automatically pop up under "Agent requires update" whenever an unpatched agent gets installed?

Hi if the agents were manually installed I think you need to run the update query to bring them under centrally managed then they should appear as pending update
http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2007/10/18/useful-operations-manager-2007-sql-queries.aspx
Search for "set all agents back to Remotely Manageable" - obviously test in pre-prod first as the great Kevin says :)

I already ran the query to change all of my manually installed agents to "remotely manageable". I do that on a regular basis since I have the SCOM agent embedded in our server images. Running that query does not make the agent appear under "Agent Requires Update"....

Yeah, I tried restarting the agent service on one of the agents that is unpatched........also tried clearing the cache by deleting the health service folder. The server never appeared under Pending Management as requiring an update.....

I have experienced same issue some months before.
can you please post us the Events appearing in Opsmgr log in any one of the manually installed Agent.
Also try manually installing CU5 in one manually installed Agent and let's see the result.
you can copy CU5 Agent version from Agentsmanaged folder in management server.
