Hello Everyone,

a couple of questions;

Did anybody run License report? How accurate it is reporting? How it detects the criteria for Enterpise and Standard license?

Reporting/Microsoft Generic Report Library/Licences

The reason I am asking, when i run the report I am not seeing accurate results.

Thanks,

Orhan

Subject to question I think and would do some other comparison as well.

See also Does SCOM correctly track enterprise licenses?

and What’s the difference between SMSE and SMSD licensing for System Center?

A  little background on this:

The CAL's does not apply as you pay for the agent which come in 3 types.

  • Enterprise (Servers with Applications like Exchange, SQL etc)
  • Standard (Servers without application but does include DHCP and DNS)
  • OMA (Workstations)

In the reporting you can see what agents are what, is will also look for virtual machines, that can make a difference to the price.

Layer 3 which is a switch or Firewall that is not run by an OS are free to monitor. The use of SRS SQL Reporting Services is allowed in the OpsMgr licensing.

Thank you Pete. It is very useful. It is still not clear enough. I checked the discoveries where it detects SQL,IIS, AD management packs has Enterprise License, License Discovery so any server has AD,SQL and IIS considered as Enterprise ML. What about if you have another third party application such as Citrix, Websphere and etc and either you have created custom management packs or bought a third party management packs. ( Nworks, Citrix and etc)

Does those server require Enterprise or Standard License?

Thanks,

Orhan

Hi Orhan. Basically, if it's more than layer 3 monitoring, it requires an Enteprise Mgmt License. This page on the MS site is aimed to clarify this a bit. However, third party MPs do not generally have a license check in them AFAIK.

Let me know if this doesnt help.

Hi.

Please see my response at http://www.systemcentercentral.com/Forums/tabid/60/tag/Forums/indexid/67969/Default.aspx for a script that will help somewhat more than the built in report.

Good riddance to this report in v.Next (2011) if they do take it out.
