We are exceeding the Monitoring Host handle count threshold (5000) on our backend Exchange 2007 server every couple of days.  As a result, the agent  restarts itself automatically. Is this something I should be worried about? How do I troubleshoot this?

I have been tracking this same thing.

On Windows 2008R2 I bet? Or some other OS?

I have been told that Windows 2008R2 SP1 is supposed to fix this issue for Windows 2008R2. We will see.

You can bump this number up to 10,000... but if you feel it is truly a leak, and can repro at will, then I would open a case with Microsoft and have them get to the bottom of it, as while an agent restarting every few days isnt a really bad thing, it isn't by design for this behavior to occur.
