Does anyone else use this tool? So far it seems failry neat on a basic level. I am documenting my MDF and adding health states. I would like to use it like SA Vision Maps and actually show Disk Drives and what not. The problem is it will apparantly take some tewaking to make this work. If anyone is interested in using the tool we can bounce ideas off each other in this thread.

Thanks,
Bryan

Oh and if you don't already have the add-in you can get it here...

Hi Bryan,

I am not really sure of the road map of the Visio connector, it is basic an will not really compare to Savision. We would however like to read about your findings in a blog post. Good Luck!

Ok initial thoughts. As obvious as it may sound you can make pages within Visio and link them together. They look a lot like tabs in excel. Once you export them to a web page you can make them searchable which is cool as Share Point does not seem to search the content of my separate Visio documents (initial failed attempt at this). Once this project is done it will make finding servers soooo much easier and hopefully promote SCOM more in my firm (brushes shoulders off)

The Vision
Page 1 - Sites (production and test)
Page 2 - MDF of each site
Page 3 - Racks in MDF ( health state) links to SCOM alerts and health state
Page 4- Server pertinent Data (objects like disk drives)
Current Limitations:

1. The tool thus far is linked to only one Web console. However my test and production live in separate databases. How would you suggest I get around this? Is there a tool that can import both databases into excel for instance.
2.  Server pertinent objects seem missing, I see a bunch of objects for Disk as an example. However they are not monitored. I believe this may have something to do with applying that discovery. However I do know we monitor disks so the default may be missing from the list. Any thoughts (assuming this makes sense).

Tying into two data sources would not be possible with the Visio Connector I  believe. I am actually not sure that is possible with Savision Live Maps either, but you'd want to check with them.

As for objects with unmonitored state. The Visio Connector is pulling instances right fromm SCOM, so if monitored in SCOM, should appear as such in Visio, unless there is a bug.

Thanks guys! Maybe an RFC to Microsoft will allow for two data sources.
