Community Feedback: R2 Upgrade fails, can´t find database

http://www.systemcentercentral.com/tabid/130/IndexId/53755/Default.aspx

Problem: I try to Upgrade my OpsMgr RMS to R2. but it fails complaining that SQL is not installed on the server. That is true since the database is located on another server. Viewing the install-log it states "could not get sql server instance names". If that is related to the fault I don´t now.
Any ideás ?

Thanks,
Andreas

I am blocked trying to set up an SCOM agent on an XP PC on my virtual network. I exhausted all the resources I could find on the Internet. I set up the Operations Manager 2007 R2 on a windows server 2008 R2. I performed all the necessary steps such as making sure the machine is present in the server’s DNS and updated the Windows installer on the client to 3.1.
Here is the discovery wizard output,

Community Feedback: SCOM Getting Started

http://www.systemcentercentral.com/tabid/130/IndexId/52642/Default.aspx

I don't know if this is the right spot to post my question.

Basically, I was told to do some research on SCOM, and I need to setup a monitoring/reporting mechanism for our distributed web application.

The applications are currently deployed in a virtualized environment. The technology used to develop the application includes but not limited to .Net, Java, Web Service, ASP.Net, IIS, WCF, Windows Service, SQL Server & etc.

I’ve downloaded the user guide, admin guide, design guide and a bunch of other guides from Microsoft. But, those guides are all hundreds of pages, and seriously I don’t have lot of patients to go through that stuff. So, I’m looking for a clear and concise guide to get started, if there is one available.

Could someone please give me some suggestions? I’d really appreciate your help.

Thank you!

Community Feedback: self created MP's not alerting

I am running MSCOM 2007 SP1 in a single server, single management group configuration. I create management packs targeted to groups with statically defined members. Monitor targests are Availability, Im doing a basic windows service alert, critical if not running, no overrides. I apply it. Ops mgr logs on target machines show succesfull download of MP, the MP is visible in management packs folder. No errors on the RMS server. I stop the service but the alert is never shown? I stop the DNS client service which is from a different MP and it alerts. I dont know where else to look to troubleshoot this thing. any help appreciated.
