I have been working with this in my lab and noticed today that if a user enters a request via the Portal it becomes a Service Request, but if one is sent in via email it becomes an incident. I'm trying to get a better understanding of the two and can't f...

I would export the 5 management packs and combine the .xml elements that are needed into one .xml MP. If you take this route you will need to remove the 5 old MPs from the management group in order to successfully import the new single MP.

Our management is pushing to increase the retention of detailed Performance Data from 7 days to 30 days, so our SCOM users have to ability to see detailed performance history for up to 30 days easily.  What impact does this have on SCOM performance,...

Yes it can, and the guidance Symantec provided for MOM 2005 applies for Operations Manager 2007 / 2012. See "Can Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager be monitored by Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM)?" at http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index...

I am going to run through a quick 2-minute synopsis of a few of the most important Hyper-V features in Windows 8 Beta (now Windows Server 2012) for a customer, and thought I would share with the community at the same time. Below you’ll find a brief descr...

Hey guys, we've added a couple of management servers in our main data center and I was wondering if anyone had a script to automatically balance the agent load evenly across 4 managmenet servers.

System Center 2012 Service Manager includes several product connectors for importing data into the CMDB automatically on a recurring basis with minimal effort. But what can you do when these connectors do not provide the configuration item (CI) data need...

This works fine in theory, but suffers from an issue Pete found with the 2012 cmdlets when working with groups--contained objects are not touched by the MM cmdlets. I forgot about that---so if you want automation, use the first script because it makes sur...

This is just a tad simpler, and it would be easy to bolt in conditional logic to run the stop MM cmdlet for each MS. Think I'll do that later and turn this into a real simple little script. May need to test for isGateway if necessary. $MSs = get-scomgroup...

Wondered about that--the initial post was a little cofusing referencing a group, then mentioning RMS Emulator. Try this; not very pretty, but works well in testing, and will take the offender(s) out of MM to boot. Good timing, as I'm going through 2007 R2...

I thought one of the objectives with network monitoring in Opsmgr 2012 was to supress alerts when the network devices separating agents from management servers was to suppress alerts. My testing reveals this is not the case. How are people handling branc...

Thanks Drew, but the reason I was thinking about a SQL query is to check if ALL management servers are in maintenance mode.

Unless I misunderstand, there's only one RMS emulator, so you could use this in Powershell to identify it import-module operationsmanager new-scommanagementgroupconnection localhost $emulator = get-scomclass -displayname "Root Management Server Emulator"...

If I am reading the product documentation correctly, it seems that network and cross-platform systems are automatically load balanced across the pool, but Windows agents are not? Is this really by design? Seems strange this would be true.
