Populate a class without a local discovery - using CMDB data
Hi there, This may sound like a rather ‘out there’ idea, but if it can be achieved it will pretty much revolutionize how we (and possibly you!) look at classes. Right now it’s pretty simple – write a discovery, target a rule to the discovered class, override as needed. However, the main problem here is that every class requires a discovery, and that means running some sort of probe action on every single server. …but what if we already have this data? We have invested heavily in systems to classify each and every system in our environment. We are able to query a SQL datasource that has information such as: Windows Server, SQL Server, Windows 2008 R2, as well as company-specific roles that we normally have discoveries for. In essence, if we could do the following we would never have to write a ‘custom’ discovery again. 1) Create custom class (Company.C
