Some of the data collected could be thought of as sensitive, security within the SEViewer is easy to configure, but with Operation Manager this may not be a useable solution, why?
Each time you you select the SEViewer within Operations Manager when the security is set via the ‘AVIcode Security Mode’ it will prompt you for a password, I am not sure about you guys but that would pay it’s toll on me!
For example the below are links to the SEViewer.

Just to cover it off if you want to add Security to the SEViewer via the the AVIcode wizard then we would simply follow these simple configurations.
Open the SEViewer http://yourseviewerservername/seviewer then select Tools > Options.

When you have the Options Webpage Dialog open click radio button to activate the Security Mode. Add a Administrator login name and password.

We can accomplish security per Computer or Group via the AVIcode Security mode which would make this a more secure option
To create a tier layer security, create Application Groups

Select the Application that the user can view.

Then the Servers that can be viewed

Select Next

Then Next again

Use the ‘Users Management Wizard’ to create the users

After which you can the create the users and give them the right appropriate

Select the Application Group as you have already done above.

When you click Next it will prompt you to create a new user or save save this one.
Secure Via the web.config file
Another way could be via the web.config file (%\AVIcode\Intercept\SEViewer\Web)
Below is the standard Authentication

And my modified version will restrict the added users.

Finally this can be secured via IIS in 2 ways,
Open the SEViewer Virtual Directory and select the users or groups that you wish to access the SEViewer

Or via the IIS console

As you can see there are a few ways that we can secure the SEViewer so we can protect information like this.

If a password is exposed then AVIcode will mask it with ‘*****’ but it might not be a password but a Credit Card No.!
There is more to this, which I will cover off in Part 7
Simon Skinner MVP.
