The third winner in our 2010/2011 post-of-the-week contest (week ending Jul 31th) is OpsMgr MVP Stefan Koell. Stefan answered a question for a common MP authoring problem with an interesting scripting / authoring technique. The question came up in the MP Authoring support forum:
Is it possible to include the value of an overridable parameter in the alert description of a custom monitor?
Normally, the answer would simply be "no". But there is a not so well-known workaround. As Stefan explains in this forum thread, "Why not just include the parameters or better the alert message as property bag value? At least that's the way I always do it..." By adding the value of the overridable parameter to the property bag of a script (no matter whether the property bag holds performance or state data), you can carry the parameter value to the output of the workflow.
