In part one we got through the section for setting the Channels and Subscribers so in part two we will look at the ‘Subscriptions’ or the bits we are going to alerts engineers about.
There are two main areas where you can set up the ‘Subscriptions’ in the ‘Administration’ pane of the Ops Mgr console is one under ‘Notifications’ > Subscriptions the other in the ‘Monitoring’ pane but there are differences. We will focus on the ‘Administration’ pane for the first part of this document.

Right Click on ‘Subscriptions’

Then click on ‘New subscription’

This will open the ‘Notification Subscription Wizard’

Give it a name and a description for your reference.
Then click Next,

Here in the 'Criteria’ section is where we will choose that we wish to be alerted via a Notification, please note these alerts will not appear anyway else in other than in a Notification unless there is an error sending the alert.
Also when you get to this part of the wizard is is worth realizing that there needs to be a bit of thought behind this.
*** Warning I am just going to rant a little ***
Also ensure that the recipient will read the alert/s and that you are using a monitoring of your mail server is working, yes I have seen this happen also read my thoughts on notifications here.
*** End of rant ***
So on the 'Criteria’ section we can look for many different scenarios so it is best to test on this as is the use of the ‘Notify on all alerts’ which is the default setting, you could get a lot of noise.
So lets define a Criteria for an example
In Subscription Criteria we have Conditions these are the parameters to define on the alerting, so I am going to select on ‘raised by an instance with a specific name’

Note that now in the Criteria description under ‘Notify on all alerts’ it has an additional entry ‘raise by an instance with a specific name’. Now we are beginning to define our alerts to specific applications or instance with in our OMMZ (Operations Manager Managed Zone ( this is a expression of mine)).
click in this case ‘specific’ (which is in blue) to open the Object Search dialog box

In the ‘Look for’ combo box you can define your instance or Application

I have chosen ‘Dell Hardware’ for this example, so you have an entry in ‘Look for’ click ‘Search’ which will give you the "’Available objects’ chose the one/s you want (there could be main objects) and click Add
so that the object appear in the ‘Selected Objects’ then click OK.

Now in the ‘Notification Subscription Wizard’ we have the ‘Conditions’ and the ‘Criteria’ so you can click Next.

to add the info we have already configured in part one

Click Add to open the ‘Subscribers Search’ dialog box and in the filter I have started to write the name of a subscriber, selected one then clicked Add to put the subscriber into ‘Selected subscribers’
then click OK

Now we have a Subscriber,

Click Next and follow the same as above to select the ‘Channel’ the process is the same click add and search the same.

As you can see you could add a New ‘Subscriber’ or ‘Channel’ it’s make recommendation to set this up in the Administration pane, there is no difference it’s just fewer step where you could make a mistake.
Please note on the section there is another question ‘Alert aging’

This is a cool feature and here is why if you have an alert and your away from the office and is resolves itself then I see no need to worry, with that you may want to set the delay for 10 mins.
Click next to the summary, double check your settings and click Finish

This save the settings

Then the Notification is ready to go.
In part three we will looking at Notifications in the ‘Monitoring Pane’
